Who We Are

Founded by women for women, WANDA is a strong community of women and allies committed to investing in single mother success. Since 2007, WANDA has been instrumental in helping hundreds of powerful women invest in their first homes, pursue higher-paying jobs, seek promotions, start successful businesses, build their savings, and secure their financial future.

WANDA provides a comprehensive three-year program to economically-disadvantaged single mothers in Silicon Valley that offers the tools they need to achieve long-term financial stability.

  • Educate: WANDA teaches specific competencies in financial literacy, career planning, and life skills to a 35-person cohort of single, working mothers over a 12-month period that specifically address their unique challenges and helps them establish successful livelihoods.
  • Invest: WANDA invests in our clients when they invest in themselves by providing a 2:1 financial match up to $4000 to clients who save up to $2000 over three years. These savings are then invested in a home purchase, retirement savings, or college education for themselves or their children.
  • Empower: WANDA provides networking opportunities for our clients within WANDA’s large network of supporters and partners, and fosters a supportive community of achievement-minded women with similar challenges and goals. This social capital is ultimately what drives long-term behavioral change.
  • Elevate: WANDA’s partnerships with other mission-aligned regional nonprofits who serve the same demographic expands client access to our program and enables WANDA to deliver our curriculum, provide the 2:1 financial match, and leverage the WANDA community.

Our History

WANDA was founded in 2007 by three friends who combined their individual philanthropic and volunteer efforts to launch an initiative designed to assist single mothers in San Mateo County to achieve financial self-sufficiency.
